POSITION SUMMARY
This position monitors solid waste diversion programs and assists managers with solid waste programs, contracts, program promotions and materials marketing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)
1. Assist Site Supervisors with marketing of diverted materials generated throughout the County.
2. Assist in contract development, compliance and data verification, etc.
3. Arrange and maintain records for the ordering and distribution of composters, caddy carts, and blue boxes.
4. Oversee and maintain records for County solid waste programs such as Household Hazardous Waste, composting and other diversion initiatives.
5. Collect, input and verify data on various programs.
6. Prepare annual reports as required for waste diversion programs.
7. Coordinate compost monitoring and distribution programs.
8. Provide the Customer Service Department information and assistance with respect to waste programs.
9. Provide administrative support for waste programs and initiatives.
10. All other duties as assigned.
11. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
12. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
- College diploma in a field related to waste or resource management / environmental studies.
- Understanding of waste management.
- Knowledge of recycling operations, landfill operations and waste reduction activities.
- Understanding of waste management programs and applicable legislation and policies.
- Knowledge of Simcoe County solid waste programs and initiatives would be an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and public relations skills.
- The ability to work with little supervision and to meet deadlines.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Class G Driver’s License in good standing.
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two (2) years of practical and relevant work experience.
EFFORT
- Dealing with public, sometimes in confrontational situations.
- Involves some freedom of movement, and some lifting and moving, boxes, composters, etc.
- Management of multiple tasks and meeting established timelines.
- Needs to be up-to-date on changes to collection methods, contracts, routes, special collection days, waste reduction projects and initiatives, applicable legislation and policies, procedures, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Variable working environment, office and in the field.
- Some driving required to sites (which requires safety boots and hard hat), meetings and events.
- Occasional driving to deliver/pick up/set-up information.
- Some evening and weekend work, both indoors and out. All weather conditions at outdoor events.
